About Jack Jacobs

Jack Jacobs was a proud member of the Creek peoples and a legendary quarterback who played for the Blue and Gold between 1950 and 1954. Jacobs, a two-time Grey Cup finalist, was a key figure in popularizing the use of the forward pass in professional football, bringing so many fans to Osborne Stadium that it led to the construction of Winnipeg Stadium in 1953 – known as ‘The House that Jack Built’ – to accommodate the higher attendances.

His impact on Canadian football was so significant that he earned induction into both the Canadian Football Hall of Fame (1963) and the Winnipeg Football Club Hall of Fame (1984), cementing his legacy as one of the most influential players in Blue Bombers history.

About the Scholarship

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers, in partnership with Eagle Vision, are proud to present the 2025 Jack Jacobs Scholarships. Two (2) $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to Indigenous high school students who plan on pursuing a post-secondary education, have a passion for sport and a commitment to the balance between sports and academics.

This year’s scholarships will be presented to the recipients at the Blue Bomber Home Game on Saturday, September 27th, 2025.

Eligibility Requirements

• Must self-identify as having Indigenous heritage (which includes First Nations, Métis, and Inuit)
• Must be from Manitoba or Northwestern Ontario
• Must be in their final year of high school
• Must be planning to attend a post-secondary institution in 2025
• Must demonstrate a passion for sport
• Must show commitment to balancing sports and academics
• Open to athletes of all genders and non-gender conforming people
