A homegrown kid, Toogood was part of the University of Manitoba Bisons back-to-back Vanier Cup championship teams in 1969-70 and a second-round draft pick (16th overall) of the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1972. He tried out for the Riders in 1973 and landed with the Bombers a year later, giving the club seven solid seasons. After retiring, Toogood remained active in the game as a president of the Blue Bombers Alumni Association and with the Senior Bowl, the high school game for graduating players every spring.
Kenora’s Noel Dunford was inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 1993. He played football, basketball and was an accomplished rower before signing with the Bombers in 1963 and becoming the first player from the Kenora area to make it to the CFL. He later turned to coaching both baseball and football in Winnipeg before moving to Thunder Bay.
